Samir Roashan's Biography
<p>Samir Roashan, a name that has become familiarized among the Afghan population worldwide is one of the countries up and coming young artists. Born and raised in America, he has managed to stay close to his roots and utilize his talents in vocal artistry, songwriting & music production to speak to the hearts of both the young and elder crowds worldwide.</p> <p>Having started his passion for music at the tender age of three years old with tabla, he familiarized himself with “lai” (rhythm) and slowly made his way towards the world of piano/keyboard, song-writing and music production.</p> <p>After investing time and energy on furthering his knowledge and experience with these aspects of music, he was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to start accompanying Afghanistan’s finest artists, namely Haider Salim, Salma Jahani, Najim Nawabi, Naim Popal, Habib Qaderi and many other talented artists on the finest stages worldwide. Some of his immense inspirations throughout his keyboarding career were Rahe Jahani, Weiss Malek, Mahroof Sharif, Ali Etemadi and Rahmat Ahmed.</p> <p>As he was touring and performing worldwide with such talented artists, he began to grow a fond interest in the vast world of vocal artistry and eventually started delving deeper into the realms of vocal technique, raaga (a melodic framework for improvisation akin to a melodic mode utilized heavily in Indian classical music and Afghan music) and the many different schools of music to follow.</p> <p>Samir is now an independent vocalist, song-writer and music producer who currently resides in San Francisco, California and continues to enrich the hearts of those who listen to his many different songs from the vast library of genres he sings. His overall goal is to bring and inspire change within the Afghan music industry while still staying close to his roots and maintaining the overall subtleties that make Afghan Music as rich sounding as it is.</p>
